Meeting Format

Meetings are held in Lincoln, NE  at Sam Boon’s  shop on the third Tuesday of each month except June when the club picnic is held. The meetings are casual and refreshments served. We normally have a three  part  meeting. During the first part of the meeting  old or ongoing business is reviewed  and new business discussed .  When necessary the club votes on expenditures and activities to become involved with. We also have a report from the secretary and treasurer and then a break.   The second part of the meeting is show and tell. During this portion of the meeting  members and guests are invited to show what they have made over the past month.  We usually have about 20 turnings.  Each member has the opportunity   to introduces their woodturning project and talk about  how it was  made  and how it was finished.  The pieces are then passed around so that everyone can get a closer look.  While this is not a critique of the work we all have the opportunity to ask questions or talk about problems or challenges that occurred during the turning and finishing process.   The last part of the meeting is a demonstration.  Each month we have a scheduled demonstration by a member of the club on a topic of interest.  Recent presentations have been how to turn a bowl, finishing your work, turning spindles, and making ornaments. In January each year we start talking about what presentations we would like to have during  the next year. We set a schedule and ask for volunteers for each topic during the March meeting.  Once each quarter we hold a  raffle.  Members are asked to bring something for the raffle which can be anything from vegetables to wood and everything in between.  Tickets are sold 6 for $5 and then numbers are drawn and items selected.  It is a great way to earn money for the club.
