The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by president, Rob Otte.

Theo Alles gave the treasurer’s report, indicating $500 in receipts and no expenditures, leaving a bank balance of $3664.70.

In addition to numerous club members, six visitors were present.

Rob reminded people about the payment of dues of $25.00 per year and the need to check in media materials after a month of use—suggesting that Sam will place reminders on the nametags of those having overdue items.

Rob mentioned that South Pointe Mall is hosting the Sustainability Living Festival on October 11, 2014, and that it might be of interest to some members of Great Plains Woodturners to have a booth at that event for the purpose of both demonstration and sales. Several members were in favor of exploring such participation.

Rob also mentioned possible farmers’ market participation by members as a means of selling their wares.

Terry Savage mentioned that Midwest Woodworkers in Omaha has a yearly event in which woodworkers of all kinds could sell their products. Mark Entzminger indicated that he had a booth reserved and that others may find that event an excellent venue for selling their products.

Rob suggested that Cindy Boehrns may have a tool auction to reduce her turning tools and materials before moving to North Carolina.

Rob mentioned that it may be useful for our organization to have an in-house tool auction as an avenue for members to rid themselves of unwanted tools and supplies. Funds raised could be split between seller and club.

Tonight, being raffle night, $161 was gained by the sale of tickets–giving members opportunities to win items brought by other members.

The program for the evening was led by Scott Josiah. He had several handouts regarding the structure, growth characteristics and identification of woods. In addition to lending his insights about properties of wood, he had numerous samples that he challenged members to identify. His considerable knowledge of wood as Nebraska’s State Forester was appreciated by all.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:25 pm.
