This month many of our club members donated their time and services to a fellow member in need of some help. As most of you are aware, Terry Savage has suffered from multiple strokes and has had to give up turning on his Doctors orders. Like most of us who have been turning for any amount of time, Terry has an entire shop full of tools, wood and supplies that are no longer being used and serve as a constant reminder of the things Terry has had to give up. Terry asked our help in dismantling his shop and selling his equipment, tools and supplies. On October 7th a group of Terry’s friends and club-mates descended on his garage and loaded everything into boxes and hauled it to Sam’s shop. On October 15th we held a combination garage sale, silent bid auction and an auction to sell Terry’s equipment. We had a miserable cold and windy day for the sale and while the turnout wasn’t as large as we had hoped, we had a good showing of fellow turners from the Lincoln and the Omaha clubs. At the end of the day virtually everything had sold and there was an active bidding war over Terry’s Powermatic Lathe which has found a new home with Scott Josiah. Terry expressed a great deal of gratitude to all of his friends for helping him with this very difficult process. He made a donation to the club in the sum of $500.00 as a thank you to everyone. We hope that Terry will continue to come to our meetings when he feels up to it. We have missed him.
Tonight’s program was put on by Elmer Miller, Sam Boon, Curt Norman and Mark Entzminger. They presented and demonstrated the use of Piercing, Power Carving, Air Brushing, Pyography, Embellishments with a Chatter tool and a texturing tool and wire burning as a way to give your wood turning projects that little something extra.
We moved our raffle to next months meeting due to a very long day. so bring your donations to the November meeting.
